Vincentian Congregation is a clerical society of the Pontifical Right belonging to the Syro-Malabar Archiepiscopal Church in the Catholic fold. Fr. Varkey Kattarath founded this community in 1904 at Thottakom in the State of Kerala, India. It consists of priests and lay brothers who are primarily committed to the cause of evangelization of people especially the poor. This ministry is carried out primarily by the preaching of the Word of God through Popular Missions, Bible Conventions, Residential Retreat Programmes etc in different Retreat Centres and through other pastoral, educational and charitable activities.
The Congregation draws its spirit and distinctive character from the life and works and the Common Rules of St. Vincent de Paul who is chosen as its Father and Patron. The Vincentian Congregation was started in 1904 at Thottakom, Vaikom, in the diocese of Ernakulam, Kerala, India. |
